Star Princess delivered at Monfalcone

- Second Sphere-class unit for Princess Cruises

Fincantieri and Princess Cruises, one of the world’s leading cruise companies, celebrated at the Monfalcone shipyard the delivery of Star Princess , the second ship of the Sphere class and the new flagship of the fleet powered by LNG (liquefied natural gas).

The ceremony was attended, among others, by Gus Antorcha , President of Princess Cruises , Mauro Bordin,  President of the Regional Council of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Ester Fedullo,  Prefect of the Province of Gorizia, Luca Fasan,  Mayor of the Municipality of Monfalcone, Pierroberto Folgiero , CEO and General Manager of Fincantieri, Biagio Mazzotta,  President of Fincantieri, Luigi Matarazzo,  General Manager of the Merchant Ships Division, Cristiano Bazzara,  Director of the Monfalcone shipyard.

With a gross tonnage of approximately 178,000 tons, Star Princess is the sister ship of Sun Princess, delivered in 2024, and the second-largest vessel ever built in Italy. Equipped with dual-fuel propulsion and powered primarily by LNG, she represents a key milestone in the maritime industry’s decarbonization journey, significantly reducing greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions.

The ship will be able to accommodate over 4,300 passengers and is based on a next-generation platform design, integrating innovative technological solutions to increase energy efficiency and environmental performance.

Princess Cruises, one of the most iconic brands in the international cruise industry, operates a fleet of 17 modern ships that carry millions of passengers each year to over 330 destinations worldwide.

The Monfalcone shipyard, Fincantieri’s cruise ship production hub, has delivered more than 40 vessels since 1990 and will continue to build new record-breaking ships in the coming years. With the contribution of thousands of workers and a supply chain that generates over 23,000 jobs overall, it remains a strategic asset for industrial growth, where manufacturing tradition, technological innovation, and collaboration with universities and research centers merge into a unique model of excellence.
