Brazil takes third and launches Fourth Scorpène-Class Submarines

The Minister of Defense, José Mucio Monteiro, participated on Wednesday 26th, at the Itaguaí Naval Complex, in the ceremony that marked the display of armament of the Submarine Tonelero (S42) and the launch into the sea of ​​the Submarine Almirante Karam (S43). The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defense, Cinara Wagner Fredo, and other civil and military authorities were also present.

“Today’s deliveries are concrete actions that demonstrate our unquestionable determination to equip Brazil with the most appropriate capacity to defend our waters and our sovereignty. The Blue Amazon is one of the most challenging regions for our defense. We are attentive and active in protecting its integrity and Brazilian sovereignty, we can see that our defense industry achieved a new record this year, exceeding US$3 billion in authorized exports of defense products, a milestone that embodies the joint effort of the Defense and national industry, with broad participation from the Navy, Army, and Air Force,”

The Minister also highlighted the impact of the Defense Industrial Base (DIB), which generates thousands of jobs and reached its highest historical volume of exports in the sector in 2025.

Finally, he reaffirmed the Ministry of Defense’s commitment to the development of the Álvaro Alberto nuclear-powered submarine, considered a milestone for the future of Brazilian naval power.

“The recent recognition by the United Nations Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf of the expansion of the Brazilian Continental Shelf has projected the Blue Amazon by redefining geostrategic contours, broadening national dominion over areas of high scientific and economic potential, this milestone expands the country’s responsibility in protecting and sustainably using these resources and reinforces the Navy’s role in producing strategic knowledge.”
