A SIAI Marchetti T-260B aircraft belonging to the 70th Wing based in Latina crashed around 09:25am this morning inside the Circeo National Park in the municipality of Sabaudia (Latina) south of Rome. Firefighters, police, and Air Force units responded immediately, extinguishing the flames and securing the area. Unfortunately, both pilots on board died in the crash.
The aircraft crashed during a training mission, as confirmed by the Latina Scalo flight school. The causes of the accident are not yet known.
Premier Giorgia Meloni wrote on X. “I express my deep sorrow for the accident that occurred to an Air Force aircraft near the Circeo National Park. My closeness and that of the Government to the families of the victims, to the Air Force and to the whole of Defence”
