TCG Ufuk, a Turkish intelligence ship, has joined the Turkish Navy.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan attends the launch of the Test and Training Ship TCG Ufuk at the Istanbul Maritime Shipyard, according to a tweet from Erdogan’s Twitter account.

TCG Ufuk (A-591), a Test and Training Ship, was launched on February 9, 2019, with a ceremony.

The Turkish Naval Forces intend to use the vessel for testing and training, as well as signal and electronic espionage tasks.

The Test and Training Ship TCG Ufuk (A-591), which is based on the hull form of the MLGEM Ada Class Corvette, is capable of navigating for 45 days in tough climatic and marine conditions, including international seas.

The ship, which will be Turkey’s first intelligence ship, is expected to be delivered to the Turkish Naval Forces Command in 2020 and will have a length of 99.5 meters, a maximum width of 14.4 meters, a displacement of 2,400 tons, a draft of 3.6 meters, and the necessary platform for a 10-ton helicopter.
