The Polish Navy’s new frigates are based on the Type 31 frigate

On April 8, officials of the PGZ Miecznik consortium conducted a news conference in Gdynia, where they revealed fresh facts regarding the Polish Navy’s Miecznik frigate, which is based on the UK’s Type 31 frigate design.

The consortium of Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ), PGZ Stocznia Wojenna, and Remontowa Shipbuilding has picked Babcock International’s Arrowhead 140 (AH140) design. PGZ has released many photos from the press conference that offer further information about the frigates.

Officials outlined a plan for investments in production, design, information technology, and cybersecurity that will allow the shipyard to work on ships. The head of the Miecznik Program, Cezary Cierza, stressed that the ships’ armament will be adjustable and that the design will be versatile. MBDA will offer missile systems and munitions in collaboration with Babcock, while Thales will provide combat systems.
