F/A-18D Hornet Crashes Near MCAS Miramar

A F/A-18D Hornet aircraft, owned by United States Marine Corps, assigned to All-Weather Fighter Attack Squadron VMFA (AW) 224, crashed Thursday night around 23:55 PST in the vicinity of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.

Swift and determined search and rescue efforts led to the successful recovery of the U.S. Marine Corps pilot, who, tragically, has been confirmed as deceased at the crash site. The pilot was the sole occupant of the aircraft. Our deepest condolences are extended to the grieving family of the Marine during this trying time.
