Reports of three aircraft from the famous Italian Air Force aerobatic team the ‘Frecce Tricolori’ that clipped in mid-air and had to take emergency procedures have also reached us, during the team’s training over the island of Pantelleria.
In a Statement the Italian Air Force said the following:
“In the early afternoon of today, Tuesday 6 May, during an aerobatic training flight of the Frecce Tricolori at the Pantelleria airport, the day after the Catania airshow, an anomalous separation of the formation, during the cardioid maneuver, forced the interruption of the aerobatic program.
Four aircraft of the second section, the so-called “rombetto”, demonstrating mastery of the procedures, separated from the rest of the formation, three of which subsequently headed for landing at the airport of Pantelleria. The remaining aircraft of the formation landed at the military airport of Trapani.
During the landing in Pantelleria, an aircraft, due to a technical problem of controllability of the nose wheel, went off the runway at the end of the deceleration run on the ground. The pilot did not report any health problems.”
