DGA announces the first “Archangel” flight

-The French Armaments Agency (DGA) announced the first flight of the aircraft developed under the ARCHANGE (New Generation Payload Intelligence Aircraft) program. This represents a major milestone in France's intelligence capabilities.

- This program aims to deliver, by the end of the 2024-2030 Military Programming Law, three aircraft capable of detecting and analyzing radar and communication signals.

- They will be used by the Air and Space Force and will contribute to France's ability to collect and analyze strategic information.

The ARCHANGE program involves transforming Dassault Aviation Falcon 8X business jets into intelligence platforms. They will be equipped with a complex mission system developed by Thales DMS and Thales SIX, which relies on innovative technologies and high-level sensors to ensure optimal performance.

These aircraft, modified by Dassault Aviation to meet the program’s specific requirements, will strengthen France’s signals intelligence capabilities. They notably benefit from unprecedented complementarity in the detection of communication signals and radar emissions.

The creation of a training and practice system as well as in-service support for these systems are also planned.

This first flight culminates several years of collaboration between leading manufacturers and the DGA. It demonstrates the collective commitment to strengthening France’s defense capabilities, its decision-making sovereignty, and the operational superiority of its armed forces.
