Updated: Italian Air Force 100 years – the Open Days of March 28

While celebrating the 100th anniversary of an air force is not a typical feat, on March 28, 2023, the General Staff of the Italian Air Force will host open days at the majority of its air bases. The general public will be able to get up close and personal with the Air Force aircraft and helicopters that patrol the skies daily to secure Italy’s and NATO’s airspace or to assist the civilian population in the event of emergencies like natural disasters, accidents, and medical evacuation.

In anticipation of the main event of the celebrations for the Centenary of the Air Force, an air show at Pratica di Mare air base, which will take place on the 17 and 18 June, this is unquestionably an unmissable opportunity to spend a day with active aircraft and even past aircraft such as two F-104 Starfighters.

However, the anniversary of March 28, the day the Air Force was founded, will undoubtedly go down in history as the most significant and iconic event of the Air Force’s centennial. To commemorate this occasion, two major events are planned: a military ceremony on the terrace of the Pincio and an overflight by some Air Force aircraft and the Frecce Tricolori.

The Aeronautica Militare (Italian Air Force) have issued the whole list of bases and Military Infrastructure that shall be open for the public. One can also visit the following MAP to see which bases and installations are open.
