On Thursday at the Riva Trigoso shipyard, the keel-laying ceremony for the first of the two next-generation FREMM frigates in the “EVOLUTION” version (“FREMM EVO”) destined for the Italian Navy took place. The contract for the construction of the two new units was signed in July 2024 between Orizzonte Sistemi Navali (OSN) and OCCAR, as part of the multi-year “FREMM” program aimed at the renewal of the Italian Navy’s fleet through the construction of next-generation frigates. The ceremony was attended by Fulvio Palermo, our Head of Project Management of the Naval Vessels Division, and the shipyard Director Antonio Quintano, in the presence of representatives from the Italian Navy, Orizzonte Sistemi Navali, OCCAR, the Industry, and RINA. The Italian Navy will be able to rely on two vessels ensuring high operational performance, with state-of-the-art technology and cutting-edge systems, as well as the latest anti-drone capabilities and the capacity for operational management of unmanned systems across three dimensions (above the surface, on the sea, and below the surface). With delivery scheduled for 2029 for the first unit and 2030 for the second, we are bringing on board two ships that renew our commitment to excellence and technological innovation, contributing to strengthening the security of our seas and the operational capability of the Italian Navy.
