Based in Brest, the frigate intended for long missions and in crisis zones will begin its operational trials before its entry into service scheduled for 2026.

On Friday, October 17, 2025, the French Armaments Agency (DGA) officially delivered the defense and intervention frigate (FDI) Amiral Ronarc’h to the French Navy . This ship, named in tribute to Admiral Pierre-Alexis Ronarc’h, hero of the Battle of Dixmude in 1914, is joining the Brest naval base where it was received on September 19, after leaving the Naval Group shipyards in Lorient.

The frigate Amiral Ronarc’h , the first in a series of five, will now begin the operational testing phase. These tests are essential to validate its military capabilities in conditions close to those encountered in real operations. Entry into active service is planned for 2026.

At 4,500 tons, the FDI is a first-rate combat ship, equipped with high-performance systems for anti-aircraft, anti-surface, and anti-submarine warfare. Capable of deploying a weapons helicopter and special forces, it also benefits from advanced communications and data link capabilities, facilitating its integration into national or allied operations.

Designed for long-term, remote deployments in crisis zones, the Amiral Ronarc’h frigate is distinguished by its versatility and modularity. It is designed to withstand both asymmetric attacks and high-intensity naval combat, integrating cutting-edge digital and data processing technologies to respond to current and future threats.
