Supply ship Jacques Stosskopf commissioned in the French Navy

- Admiral Nicolas Vaujour, Chief of Staff of the Navy (CEMM), announced the commissioning of the Jacques Stosskopf , a supply ship , on May 7, 2026. It is now declared operational and ready to be fully deployed on the orders of the Chief of the Defence Staff (CEMA)

- The French Navy thus has its second BRF, which is in addition to the Jacques Chevallier , the first of its series admitted to active service since November 2024, also based in Toulon (83).

The four planned BRFs are an integral part of the large-scale capability renewal initiated by the previous Military Programming Law (LPM), within the framework of the logistics fleet program (FLOTLOG), and confirmed by the LPM 2024-2030. They are gradually replacing the Command and Supply Ships (BCR).

Their main missions are the resupply of naval and aviation fuel, munitions, but also food and spare parts. They fall within the framework of support for the naval air group formed around the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle or the units contributing to the oceanic deterrence mission .

The arrival of the BRFs (Brigades de Reconnaissance et de Formation – Reconnaissance and Training Ships) translates into modernization and increased fuel delivery and equipment embarkation capabilities. This improves the autonomy of the supported force, enabling it to operate farther and for longer periods. This capability is the hallmark of a sea-based navy, capable of intervening on all the world’s oceans. Serving as the fleet’s lifeline, they are also equipped to operate in areas subject to asymmetric or residual threats, and contribute to the assessment of the tactical situation in a theater of operations thanks to their data link.

As part of its long-duration deployment (LDD), the Jacques Stosskopf has already taken part in joint training exercises as well as joint high-intensity readiness exercises with partner navies such as the Jeanne d’Arc 26 mission or the ORION 26 exercise. This LDD has confirmed its performance in quality and quantity, in cold and warm waters, its interoperability and its ability to produce operational effects.
