Rescue Operation at Mellieha

Maltese Emergency services were notified yesterday afternoon that a person in Selmun in the area known as Blata l-Bajda, needed medical attention after sustaining a head injury after a fall from standing height.

Immediate help was given by colleagues and passers by that assisted the person with first aid.

The AFM launched the Melita II, a SAR Launch from their Gozo base while the CPD dispatched a rescue team from Xemxija Fire Station.

The response from the local services was very professional with round the clock communication with people on site until the rescue teams arrived on site. A site that is only possible to access by sea or a 4×4 Vehicle. After assessment from teh Rescue Swimmer of the AFM and CPD personnel the injured person was helped boarding the CPD Land Rover and was driven further up to Selmun and was handed over to an Ambulance from Mater Dei Hospital (MDH) and taken later for further treatment. The person has been discharged from MDH after treatment and further checks were completed.

Horizon would like to thank the local authorities in particular both the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) and the Civil Protection Malta (CPD) for the assistance given to one of our team members that was involved in the unlucky incident.
