“Viking Mira” delivered in Ancona

Fincantieri and Viking celebrated the delivery of “Viking Mira” at the Ancona shipyard.

The ceremony was attended by Jeff Dash , Executive Vice President and Head of Business Development Viking, Giorgio Gomiero , Senior Vice President Operations Fincantieri and Gilberto Tobaldi , Director of the Ancona Shipyard.

With a gross tonnage of approximately 54,300 tons, “Viking Mira” has 499 cabins and can accommodate up to 998 passengers. The vessel, which will be deployed on itineraries in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe, belongs to the small cruise ship segment and is part of the Viking cruise fleet, all built by Fincantieri.

All Viking vessels are designed and built in compliance with the latest international safety and navigation regulations and are equipped with advanced technological solutions and high-efficiency engines, aimed at reducing emissions and containing environmental impact, in line with the highest industry standards.

The collaboration between Fincantieri and Viking, which began in 2012, continues within the framework of a solid partnership in the cruise industry. Considering the ships already ordered, the contracts signed, and the options agreed in recent months, the effectiveness of which remains subject to the customary financing conditions required by the market, the total order book between the two groups now comprises 26 vessels.

Last March, a new order was announced for the construction of two expedition cruise ships, with delivery scheduled in 2030 and 2031, as well as an option for two additional ocean-going units with estimated delivery in 2034, marking a new phase in the development of the collaboration between the two groups.

The Ancona shipyard is one of the Group’s main production hubs. In recent years, the site has undergone a comprehensive development program aimed at strengthening its competitiveness through infrastructure, technology, and logistics projects jointly supported by the company and the public port system. With a 360,000 m² site, it has a production capacity of 60,000 GRT, lifting systems up to 500 tons, and a hull capacity of 1,200 tons per month. Since 2009, over 20 vessels have been delivered, thanks to the daily commitment of approximately 3,700 workers of diverse nationalities, backgrounds, and generations. The shipyard is an active participant in the Operations Excellence program, which involves the introduction of advanced technologies, robotics, and AI to increase efficiency and improve the quality of work.
