Lufthansa Cargo retires MD-11 fleet

Lufthansa Cargo has retired their last remaining McDonnell Douglas MD-11F from service, this marks the end of the iconic tri-jets from European service.

The McDonnell Douglas MD11 was first introduced to Lufthansa Cargo in 1998, along the years the company operated a total of 19 airframes, some built as pure freighters from McDonnell Douglas and some converted from civilian passenger airliners, Uptill the introduction of the more fuel-efficient and capacious Boeing 777F these formed the backbone of the company.

The very last European registered MD11 D-ALCC, yesterday operated the last commercial flight as #LH8161 from John F. Kennedy International Airport – JFK New York to Frankfurt Airport.
